What is Ativan?

Ativan is a prescription medication and a brand name of Lorazepam. It belongs to the benzodiazepine’s family, which known for its calming effects. Benzodiazepines affect several effects on the body including

  • Relaxing muscles

  • Stopping seizures and
  • Impairing short-term memory.

The tablets of Ativan are available as an oral administration. It is an FDA approved medication and was firstly introduced by Wyeth Pharmaceutical in 1977.

Ativan is a nearly white powder almost insoluble in water. Each tablet of Ativan, to be taken orally, contains 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg of Lorazepam.

Ativan tablet contains some inactive ingredients which are,

  • Lactose monohydrate
  • Magnesium stearate
  • Microcrystalline cellulose and
